Colleges

We work closely with a number of local colleges, supporting full-time public service courses and part-time access courses, which help people who are preparing to join the force, as well as those who want to learn more about the public service sector.

For more information on the public service course, contact the colleges below for more details.

Oaklands College is situated in St Albans, Borehamwood and Welwyn Garden City (www.oaklands.ac.uk)

North Hertfordshire College in Stevenage and Hitchin (www.nhc.ac.uk)

West Herts College in Watford and Hemel Hempstead (www.westherts.ac.uk) Hertford Regional College is based in Ware and Broxbourne. (www.hrc.ac.uk)

We also operate a ride-along scheme, where members of the public can accompany an officer on patrol and learn about working with the force first-hand.

To take part in a ride-along, you need to be aged 18 years or over, have no serious or recent convictions and sign a confidentiality agreement and briefing sheet. You can request more information by filling in a form here.
