Travelling to work

One of Hertfordshire’s chief attractions is its proximity to London and getting around is made easy by superb transport links. The A1 and M1 will get you to London in under an hour. Stansted and Luton Airports are within easy reach – and Heathrow isn’t much further away. Plus several train stations offer direct services right into the heart of London, as well as to other key destinations around the country.

However, we know that getting to and from work can be an expensive business. That’s why we’ve arranged a package of travel concessions that’ll help regular officers, travel around the county – whether you’re on or off duty. Some travel concessions will also apply to PCSOs and Special Constables when they are on duty and in uniform. These concessions only apply to uniformed staff because they respond to incidents on services, and are instrumental in preventing crime and reassuring both staff and the travelling public.

Service Providers and Eligibility

The following service providers offer concessions to officers when both on and off duty (please note that details may vary):

  • Transport for London
  • London bus services displaying TfL/London Bus Services logo
  • London Underground
  • Docklands Light Railway
  • Tramlink
  • Silverlink County
  • Arriva
  • First Capital Connect trains*

*Specific services are as follows:

  • Bedford – King’s Cross Thameslink – Blackfriars – Brighton
  • Luton – St Albans – King’s Cross Thameslink – Blackfriars – Wimbledon – Sutton

  • Letchworth – Stevenage – King’s Cross/Moorgate

Conditions:

  • All concessions are conditional on production of a valid warrant card, without which you’ll need to pay full fare for your ticket.
  • All concessions apply to standard class travel only.
  • Concessions are not extended to dependants, retired officers, or other police staff (with the exception of PCSOs).
  • Arrangements are non-contractual and may therefore be removed at any time.
  • Any abuse of entitlements may result in prosecution by the provider and will also be treated as a disciplinary offence.
