Application process
Before applying, you first need to check you are eligible to join us as a special constable. You can visit our 'Am I eligible' page for more information.
If your application is accepted, the next stage involves taking an initial recruitment test, attending an interview and passing a medical examination. If all goes well, you'll be invited onto the next available training course. All special constables serve a year's probation, which begins halfway through their training.
Special constables face identical physical challenges to regular officers, so to become one, you'll also need to pass the same National Fitness Test. To assist your preparation for the test we've developed a free CD-ROM, which provides full details of the test. You can request a copy of the Fitness Test CD-ROM here.
