University

University and Herts Police go hand in hand, so spending time with us is the ideal way to complement your academic studies. There are all sorts of ways you can get involved too.

You could volunteer as a Special Constable. As well as making Hertfordshire a better place to live, you’ll be able to learn new skills, carry out real police work, and exercise the same power as our regular officers – stuff that will prepare you for anything life can throw at you.

And thanks to the short-term project work we offer, you can still get involved even if your degree doesn’t allow for a placement year. You’ll have the opportunity to work on live projects such as conducting research, developing training packages and helping with recruitment processes. It’s an excellent chance to develop employability skills while giving something back to the community.

Regardless of whether you choose a front-line role or one that’s more behind-the-scenes, there’s a very good chance that we can offer you a full-time position after you graduate.
